Hello everyone! And welcome to my first Currently Reading, Watching, Trying post! This is a new post series which I am starting today just because I do not always participate in blog memes, and when I do, they are generally only about books. I thought that since I have kind of broadened the subject matter which I discuss on my blog (now there’s not only books ((although mainly)), but also films, TV shows, make-up & beauty products, bookish products, and subscription boxes. I’ve also done some travel blogging, and will be doing more of it close to, and in, May…but that doesn’t really apply to this new post series). I will try to make these posts weekly, or bi-weekly in order to keep you guys updated on what I’m doing, especially if I don’t complete any memes, and only post reviews, if anything else at all. Life gets busy sometimes, let’s be real.
It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, but I feel like writing a blog post today, and I am really really excited to talk about the book I’m currently reading! It’s my first encounter with some Canadian YA! Believe it or not. I don’t think we come out with a lot of YA that really interests me. I’ve been bingeing Fantasy and Sci-Fi lately, and I think that the Canadian YA that’s been coming out has been more contemporary.
I’ve always read Fantasy and Sci-Fi more than anything else (which is something you would know simply by glancing at my bookshelves), and it is the rare occasion that I will read something contemporary. I read numerous cheap romance novels when I was in high school, and I suppose those count, but I don’t really feel entertained or intellectually stimulated by such novels anymore.
So, now that I have finished the amazing And I Darken by Kiersten White, I have decided to pick up Gifted, an e-copy of which was kindly provided to me by the author, in exchange for a review!
I read the book summary and was intrigued by the plot!
There is no chosen one in this story.
Avery Gray was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and happened to make a decision that altered her future forever. It happens to all of us every day.
Avery is a size twelve university student with a penchant for dry humour, and she’s as normal as they come. Up until now, the biggest choice she’s had to make was glasses or contacts? At the moment, it’s stay and save, or leave and be saved.
Allow me to explain. One rainy afternoon, Avery had to make a choice: go through the alleyway or around it. Two possible options. One would have had her future continue on as planned, the other would ensure that her future never remained the same again. She unknowingly went with the latter.
I am very happy to have been given the opportunity to read Kiersten White’s And I Darken, the first installment of her new Conqueror’s Saga series. This title will be published on June 28th of this year, and I’m super excited to be able to read it and give you all my opinion, before then!
What I’ve gotten from it so far, is that Ladislav is what White believes Vlad the Impaler would have been if he had been a woman! This is definitely a new spin on the story, and I’m really enjoying it so far.
Summary: NO ONE EXPECTS A PRINCESS TO BE BRUTAL. And Lada Dragwlya likes it that way. Ever since she and her gentle younger brother, Radu, were wrenched from their homeland of Wallachia and abandoned by their father to be raised in the Ottoman courts, Lada has known that being ruthless is the key to survival. She and Radu are doomed to act as pawns in a vicious game, an unseen sword hovering over their every move. For the lineage that makes them special also makes them targets.
